For some reason I can't shake that Matt Smith looks a lot like my cousin, Dan.

This month's Doctor Who Magazine reveals that the upcoming Doctor Who specials will be shot in High Definition, a first for the series. Previously the production team has resisted the move to HD, because of the higher costs involved particularly with effects shots. Executive Producer Julie Gardner said the team has been planning the move to HD for many months. James Strong, who is directing Planet of the Dead, has considerable experience working in HD on programmes such as Hustle.

In other news the magazine also reveals that K-9 is due to play a large part in Series Three of The Sarah Jane Adventures. He is likely to appear in around 6 episodes of the 12 part series.

The magazine, out on Thursday, contains the first magazine interview with Matt Smith, recently revealed as the Eleventh Doctor. It asks how he plans to go about playing a 950-year-old Time Lord?

"The script is where it starts, it's always about the words, and luckily we're in the hands of Steven Moffat, who has this show ingrained in his soul and searing through his blood. It’s really born into his whole fabric, and that's the job for me over the next few months, to make this show part of my fibre. I think Steven is going to be the main creative source for me, and we're going to discover it together, who the Doctor is in Steven's mind and words, coupled with pockets of my personality, my history, my life, and the man and the human being that I am. I've got a meeting with Piers (Wenger, executive producer) next week to discuss that, but I think we'll start rehearsing and, you know, just sit around Piers' or Steven's kitchen table, read the scripts together, talk about the part. We’ll talk about my intentions, their intentions, how we feel it can fly, and sing, and be as brilliant and as Doctor-y and as excellent as it can be."

When asked what he might wear as the Doctor? "I’m a big fan of long coats and rather dashing scarves in everyday life, so who knows? For the audition, I rocked up in whatever, so I think they’re having to tone down what I wear in real life for the Doctor! I am a rather elaborate dresser. That's what's lovely, there are all these exciting things – what’s he going to wear, what’s he going to do in his first scene with his companion, which monsters will he meet, will he meet the Daleks? This show is so alive, it really is. I can't ever quite forget that I'm the Doctor – which is weird, because it’s still so far away. But it’s always there in my subconscious, because it's the Doctor! It’s like, there’s Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, and Doctor Who. It has resonance in our cultural fabric."

Matt Smith is the new Dr Who

The 11th Doctor Who was announced tonight in a Doctor Who Confidential programme on BBC 1.

The mantle has been passed to the relatively tender shoulders of Matt Smith who, at 26, becomes the youngest doctor in the show’s 45 year history.

Smith will begin filming in the summer and first appear on the nation’s screens in the role in 2010.

The previous youngest doctor was Peter Davison who was signed up to play the fifth Doctor in 1981.

Smith’s predecessor, David Tennant, is to begin shooting four special episodes later this month after surgery on his back. They will be broadcast later this year and the last episode will go out in early 2010.

Smith said: "I've got this wonderful journey in front of me where I've got this six months to build this Time Lord - and that's such an exciting prospect."

Piers Wenger, head of drama at BBC Wales, said Smith was the obvious choice.

"It was abundantly clear that he had that 'Doctor-ness' about him," he said. "You are either the Doctor or you are not."

Smith secured his first television role in the 2006 adaption of Philip Pullman’s The Ruby in the Smoke. The show also starred former Doctor Who companion Billie Piper as Sally Lockhart.

In 2007, he had a part in BBC Two's political drama Party Animals, in which he played a parliamentary researcher. He was born in Northampton in 1982 and studied drama and creative writing at the University of East Anglia.

Doctor Who’s outgoing executive producer Russell T Davies said last month: "Whoever becomes the Doctor has got to take on a whole life. It's not just becoming a part of a TV show."

The series began in 1963, was dropped in 1989 and then relaunched with Christopher Eccleston in the title role in 2005. Tennant took over the role the same year.

BBC News has announced that the identity of the actor who will play the Eleventh Doctor, succeeding current Doctor David Tennant, will be announced tomorrow.

The news will come in a special edition of tie-in documentary series Doctor Who Confidential, which is being transmitted on BBC One tomorrow evening at 5.35pm. The episode will also be shown at the same time on BBC Big Screens in town centres across the UK.

The actor was confirmed in the role over the Christmas period and will begin filming for Series Five this summer, for transmission in 2010. New executive producer Piers Wenger is quoted as saying: "We believe the actor is going to bring something very special to the role and will make it absolutely their own. I just can't wait to tell everyone who it is - it has been a nail-biting Christmas trying to keep this under wraps!"

The release from the BBC Press Office confirms that the Confidential episode has been retitled "The Eleventh Doctor" (it was formerly advertised as "The Ten Doctors"), and will feature the actor concerned giving his or her thoughts on having been cast. The press release also suggests that the last of David Tennant's episodes as the Doctor will be broadcast in the New Year of 2010.

The BBC have created a special trailer for the Doctor Who Confidential episode, which is also available to British internet users on their official YouTube page.

In Greek mythology, Amalthea was a goat who raised Zeus on her breast milk. When her horn was accidentally broken off by Zeus while playing together, this changed Amalthea into a unicorn with 17 whiskers. The god Zeus, in remorse, gave her back her horn. The horn then had supernatural powers which would give person in possession of it whatever he or she wished for. This gave rise to the legend of the cornucopia. The original depictions were of the goat's horn filled with fruits and flowers: deities, especially Fortuna, was depicted with the horn of plenty. The cornucopia was also a symbol for a woman's fertility.
In modern depiction, the cornucopia is typically a hollow, horn-shaped wicker basket typically filled with various kinds of festive fruit and vegetables. In North America, the cornucopia has come to be associated with Thanksgiving and the harvest.

Could Billie Piper be the next doctor?????

Tenant is to quit his role as the Time Lord in the BBC's long-running sci-fi show at the end of next year.

Piper previously played Rose Tyler, Tennant's feisty assistant, and was a big hit with fans.

Asked if Piper could step into the role, Tennant said a female Doctor was a distinct possibility.

"Why not? It's one of those parts that any actor could bring something valid to, because it can be anything and it's a sort of blank canvas every time," he told BBC Breakfast.

"The fact is that the difference is a virtue with each Doctor. It's not like you're casting Tarzan where you've got to have somebody who looks good in a loin cloth. It can be anything."

Tennant has played the 10th doctor since 2005 but announced last week that he is leaving the role. He will appear in this year's Christmas special and four other special episodes to be broadcast next year.

The actor, currently starring in a Royal Shakespeare Company production of Hamlet in Stratford-upon-Avon, said: "Sometimes you've got to take a deep breath and make a decision, otherwise I could literally be there when I'm 86 with people thinking, 'Is he never going?'

"Who knows what might happen in the future. It is one of those parts that sticks with you... the door isn't closed forever, but in a day to day way I'll be handing over the mantle to somebody else."

Piper - who gave birth to her first child, a son called Winston, last month - will now be among the front-runners to play the 11th Doctor.

Other contenders include Paterson Joseph, who has appeared in previous episodes of the show and would be the first black Doctor; David Morrissey, who appears in the Christmas special, intriguingly titled The Next Doctor; and James Nesbitt, star of Cold Feet.

There has been talk of a female Doctor once before, when Joanna Lumley was mooted as a replacement for Tom Baker in 1981. However, the role went to Peter Davison.

Dr. Who fans are facing the future without their favorite time traveler.

David Tennant, who helped reboot the BBC's 40-year-old cult sci-fi series, has announced plans to step down from the beloved role after starring in four Dr. Who specials set to air in 2009.

"I've had the most brilliant, bewildering and life-changing time working on Dr. Who," Tennant told the audience at the U.K.'s 2008 National Television Awards on Thursday.

The Scottish thesp said that playing the 10th incarnation of the mysterious alien who breaks all sorts of Einsteinian laws in his space- and time-hopping TARDIS, was the "best job in the world."

"I have loved every day of it...I fear that if I don't take a deep breath and make the decision to move on now, then I simply never will," he added. "You would be prying the TARDIS key out of my cold, dead hand."

Tennant took over for Christopher Eccleston in 2005. No word yet on a replacement.

Saturday Hog Jog was a HIT!

You know life is good when your child wants to run a local race and the weather is beautiful and everyone is having a great time. Saturday's Hog Jog in South Windsor CT could not have been more perfect. This local little 5K race with the police officers was a hit. Traditionally the weather totally sucks but THIS year, it was slightly overcast but perfect running weather. Saying hello to my new friend Dennis who ran half the race with me this year. HI DENNIS!!!!

Buried Under

So I found this awesome little comic book shop in Manchester, CT called Buried Under. Being a huge Dr. Who fan, someone mentioned that I might find some cool toys in there. Well, I hit jackpot. They had action figures galore but the real icing on the cake was I found the Dr. Who magazine and got on the subscription list for the store. This is a difficult periodical to get and holy crap there was even a free poster included of David Tenant reading the original Dr. Who edition...

Manchester Road Race

TURKEY DAY ROAD RACE
The Manchester Road Race is fast approaching, this is the first year they are using the new RFID tags, I just got mine in the mail, pretty darn cool. It looked like a little strip of paper, I almost threw it away by accident. As usual my son will be running this one with me. I hope we get to run with the gorilla again this year :).

If you are looking for a great 5K before the MRR, try this one http://www.southwindsor.org/Pages/SWindsorCT_BBoard/I0218ED2B, the South Windsor Hog Jog is a bit more challenging than it seems, with 50% of the race on trails and it usually rains like the dickens and is COLD!!!! But when else to you get to run with a bunch of cops??? Ladies, if you do only one race this year, this is the one to do, trust me :).

My first half!!!

The ING Hartford Marathon was incredible, what an experience that I will not forget! My running partner, Bruce aka DJ and I did the half marathon (our first time) and loved it. The weather was a sunny 70 degrees, the crowds were fantastic. Who could ask for better!?

The ING Marathon brags that it is one of the top green events in the nation and I was pretty impressed with their water stations, recycling and overal green attitude. Good job ING! Now if we could just stop using all of those cups!!!

Hartford Marathon This Weekend!

This Saturday is the ING Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon. I am running the half with my friend DJ. You can find more spectator and runner information here. They have some neat new features like text message updates on your favorite runner. For all you Dr. Who fans, if you have not checked out Torchwood, I strongly recommend it. This show has the same xfiles quality with incredibly sexy characters. Torchwood taps into adult concepts that Dr. Who leaves behind so if you are looking for a hot steamy version of Who, give it a watch.

Goats are Unicorns With Two Horns

Well, I have two little goats as pets, yes it sounds weird. The last thing on the planet I wish to be referred to is "that lady that has goats",,its just a strange sounding word.

Why do I have goats you ask? Well, the little girl in me still believes in unicorns and I tell you, if you have ever spent any time with a goat, they are unicorns with two horns. They are such magical, beautiful creatures. Did you know they have 4 stomachs?

For those of you that don't know anything about goats.

The domestic goat (Capra aegagrus hircus) is a subspecies of goat domesticated from the wild goat of southwest Asia and Eastern Europe. The goat is a member of the Bovidae family and is closely related to the sheep, both being in the goat antelope subfamily Caprinae. There are over three hundred distinct breeds of goats.[1]
Domestic goats are one of the oldest domesticated species. For thousands of years, goats have been used for their milk, meat, hair, and skins over much of the world.[2] In the last century they have also gained some popularity as pets.[3]
Female goats are referred to as does or nannies, intact males as bucks or billies; their offspring are kids. Castrated males are wethers. Goat meat from younger animals is called kid, and from older animals is sometimes called chevon, or in some areas mutton.
Most goats naturally have two horns, of various shapes and sizes depending on the breed. While horns are a predominantly male feature, some breeds of goats have horned females. Polled (hornless goats) are not uncommon and there have been incidents of polycerate goats (having as many as eight horns), although this is a genetic rarity thought to be inherited. Their horns are made of living bone surrounded by keratin and other proteins and are used for defense, dominance, and territoriality. [5]
Goats are ruminants. They have a four-chambered stomach consisting of the rumen, the reticulum, the omasum, and the abomasum.
Goats have horizontal slit-shaped pupils, an adaptation which increases peripheral depth perception.[6]. Because goats' irises are usually pale, the pupils are much more visible than in animals with horizontal pupils but very dark irises, such as sheep, cattle and most horses.
Both male and female goats have beards, and many types of goats (most commonly dairy goats, dairy-cross boers, and pygmy goats) may have wattles, one dangling from each side of the neck.[7]
Some breeds of sheep and goats appear superficially similar, but goat tails are short and point up, whereas sheep tails hang down and are usually longer (though some are short, and some long ones are docked).
